When we originally started Walk in The Light we only had Protea flowers growing on the property.
We currently grow our own vegetable crop to supplement our income at Walk in The Light
Our long term objective is to make Walk in The Light a self-sustainable ministry and not have to rely on donor funding.
We continue to do the same programmes each week as we have done in the past and that is providing food to households, running youth groups, Sunday outreach services and teaching widows and caregivers how to grow their own vegetables.
An important aspect of our ministry is that we do not give any handouts and continue to teach people “how to fish”. Our ministry is based on Jesus’ teaching of “feed my people, look after the widows and orphans”.
This we do in a very simple way, which is as follows:-
Provide dry food in a format, which has to be prepared or added to.
Our food packs comprise
10kg Maize meal with added vitamins,
4kg Beans (protein),
750ml Cooking Oil,
Soups and Soya Mince,
210g Peanut Butter,
Washing soaps (clothes and bodies)
Toothepaste and Toothe Brushes.
We also provide other forms of support to households such as:
Provide Second Hand and occasionally new Clothing
Provide mattresses and blankets
Do simple repairs to houses like fixing leaking roofs and dripping taps
Assist with paying school fees (education is not free in this country)
Conducting funerals (paying for grave sites and for coffins)
Teaching a member of the household how to grow their own fresh vegetables
